?(2021 V10 Performance Shown)

After 15 years of exhilarating performances, Audi is preparing to discontinue its gas-powered R8 supercar—one of the rare instances of a daily-drivable supercar. The R8's departure also signals the end of the line for Audi's boisterous V10 powerplant. To mark the occasion, the automaker announced the second edition of the R8's ultra-high-performance GT RWD variant with augmented power numbers, a retuned transmission, a new drive mode, and exclusive aesthetic enhancements that are both functional and stylish. The R8 GT is set to go on sale in the US in 2023, with a limited run of 333 units worldwide. Here's a quick rundown of the R8 GT's highlights.

  • Audi R8 GT Performance: While the standard R8 Coupé V10 Performance makes an impressive 562 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, the R8 GT takes the thrills to a new level with 602 horsepower and 413 lb-ft. This brings the RWD-only R8 GT's power numbers in line with the AWD R8 quattro®. Audi has also reconfigured the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for quicker acceleration and shift times, helping the R8 GT reach 62 mph in 3.4 seconds and 124 mph in just 10.1.

  • "Torque Rear" Drive Settings: R8 GT drivers will be able to adjust their desired amount of rear-wheel slippage thanks to a new Torque Rear drive mode with settings from Level 1 (minimum slippage) to Level 7 for maximum slippage, allowing drivers to kick the rear-end out more easily for sideways slides around track corners.

  • Weight Savings: The R8 GT shaves 44 pounds off the weight of the standard R8 Coupé V10 Performance RWD thanks to exclusive lightweight equipment, including 20-inch wheels wrapped in high-performance Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires, ceramic braking system, anodized aluminum coupling rod connections, and a carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic anti-roll bar.

  • Design: The R8 GT boasts unique styling to signal its place at the top of the lineup. The exclusive Carbon Aerokit includes a front splitter, canards, flics, a rear diffuser, and a rear wing spoiler with gooseneck suspension. The cabin is adorned in sporty black and red and includes GT-specific floor mats, bucket seats, and a sequentially numbered plaque.
